Bangkok, December 3, 2023 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in a remarkable collaboration with the city of Bangkok, has successfully hosted the AMAZING THAILAND MARATHON 2023 presented by TOYOTA. This prestigious event, a significant boost to world-class tourism, has set a new record with an astonishing 28,819 participants and has injected over 565 million baht into the economy.
The marathon, a highlight of the Thailand Winter Festivals project, was graced by notable figures including Mr. Kitti Chaondee, Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Sports; Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt; Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the Governor of TAT; Manatase Annawat, President of Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd.; and Alessio Punzi, Head of Running and Mass Participation at World Athletics. Their presence at the runners' release ceremony at Rajamangala Stadium added prestige to the event, which saw the highest participation since its inception in 2018, with athletes from Thailand and 72 other countries.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool remarked on the marathon's significance, noting its crucial role in the Thailand Winter Festivals project and its distinction as the first official marathon in Bangkok, the Host City. The collaboration between the government and private sectors, including the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, TAT, Bangkok authorities, the Sports Authority of Thailand, Metropolitan Police Headquarters, World Athletics Association, and the Athletics Association of Thailand, was pivotal to the event's success.
The marathon encompassed four categories: the 42.195 km AMAZING THAILAND Marathon, the 21.1 km TOYOTA Half Marathon, the 10 km MAMA distance, and the 5 km MUANG THAI SMILE RUN, each commencing from different locations but converging at Ratchadamnoen Klang Road. The event's economic impact, with an estimated circulation of at least 565 million baht, is a testament to its success.
Earning a place as one of the top five marathons in Asia in the Marathon World Series and certified at the World Athletics Label level by the World Athletics Association and the Athletics Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, the AMAZING THAILAND MARATHON has not only bolstered the economy but also reinforced Bangkok's standing as a leading Sport Hub Destination in Asia. This distinction highlights the city's capability to attract international athletes and tourists, further enhancing its global appeal.
