Krabi Airport Designated as Twin Airport with Phuket, Prepares for Increased Tourism's featured image

In a significant development aimed at bolstering tourism in Thailand, Krabi Province has officially designated Krabi Airport as a twin airport alongside the well-known Phuket International Airport. The move comes as part of the government's broader policy to stimulate tourism and economic growth in the region.

Mr. Kitichai Sajjalak, Director of Krabi Airport, highlighted the key aspects of this transformation. The airport has undertaken extensive preparations to support both domestic and international flights. Notably, 34 spacious parking spots have been created to accommodate a growing number of aircraft. This move is expected to be a boon for the region as it positions itself as a premier travel destination.

One of the most notable features of this development is the introduction of free immigration and visa inspections, which aims to streamline the travel experience for tourists. The government's commitment to collecting a significant portion of its income from tourism underscores the importance of this initiative. Moreover, it aligns with the goal of ensuring that the local community benefits from the increased influx of tourists.

Mr. Sajjalak emphasized the positive impact on the region's tourism industry, especially during the peak seasons. The increase in the number of airlines servicing Krabi Airport is expected to be substantial, growing from the current three to an impressive seven airlines. This expansion is further fueled by the government's free visa policy for tourists from China and Kazakhstan. As a result, Chinese tourists are increasingly choosing to explore the Andaman Sea, with Phuket and Krabi being their preferred destinations.

The policy to designate Krabi Airport as a twin airport with Phuket is not merely symbolic. It reflects a commitment to creating a seamless travel experience for passengers. The airport has undertaken rigorous preparations to facilitate passenger arrivals and departures. The 34 parking spots provide ample space for both domestic and international flights, ensuring efficient operations.

Krabi Airport also plays a crucial role as a contingency plan for Phuket Airport. In the event of congestion or unforeseen circumstances at Phuket Airport, Krabi is prepared to receive incoming flights. This ensures that tourists can travel to both Phuket and Krabi provinces without disruption. Safety is paramount, and Krabi Airport is equipped to handle emergency landings if weather conditions prevent flights from landing in Phuket.

This announcement marks a significant step forward for the tourism industry in Krabi Province and the broader Andaman Sea region. With enhanced facilities, free visa policies, and a commitment to passenger convenience, Krabi Airport is poised to become a vital gateway for travelers exploring this breathtaking part of Thailand.
