[Bangkok, October 21, 2023] — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is thrilled to announce its groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming Thailand into a global leader in sustainable tourism through its Sustainable Tourism Goals (STG) and Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating (STAR) projects.
In alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), TAT is committed to fostering sustainable tourism practices that prioritize safety, sustainability, and high-value services. The STGs consist of 17 comprehensive goals, focusing on four key dimensions: good governance, social-economic, cultural, and environmental aspects.
The STAR project represents a significant leap forward in this endeavor. It builds upon the foundation laid by the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration health safety standards project and is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, TAT, and the Ministry of Public Health. Other key contributors include the Department of Disease Control, Department of Health, Department of Health Service Support, and various government and private agencies within the tourism industry.
The primary aim of STAR is to integrate tourism into disease control measures, ensuring visitors enjoy a safe and delightful experience while upholding high standards of hygiene and safety. Thai tourism products and services will adhere to these stringent criteria, guaranteeing that tourists receive the best possible experience during their visit to the Land of Smiles.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the STG and STAR initiatives is the strong spirit of collaboration among stakeholders. TAT, government bodies, and private sector organizations are joining forces to create a lasting and sustainable image of Thai tourism. This collaboration aims to bolster Thailand's competitiveness, positioning it as a premier Sustainable Destination on the global tourism map.
With the STAR project, TAT are taking a significant step forward by ensuring the safety and well-being of their visitors while delivering exceptional tourism experiences. These initiatives underscore TAT's dedication to making tourism a force for positive change and development in Thailand. By implementing sustainable practices and focusing on safety and hygiene, the nation is poised to emerge as a beacon of responsible tourism, setting a global example for others to follow.
